General Information
North Carolina requires holders of on-premises malt beverage permits, on-premises unfortified wine permits, on-premises fortified wine permits, and mixed beverages permits to separate, store, and provide for the collection for recycling of all recyclable beverage containers of all beverages sold at retail on the premises.
Notice to ABC Permit Holders
Mecklenburg County's Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) is encountering high levels of contamination in loads of ABC Recyclables (Glass Bottles, Plastic Bottles, and Aluminum Cans) generated from ABC permit holders.
Major contaminants include:
- Food Waste,
- Food Utensils,
- Paper Towels/Napkins waste,
- Styrofoam, Plastic Food Wrap, and Aluminum Foil
What if a contaminated load comes to the MRF?
- The MRF rejects contaminated load and directs the ABC Recycling Hauler to take each rejected load to an acceptable disposal facility, at costs. These additional costs are passed onto the identified source of contamination and become the responsibility of that ABC Permit Holder.
- If more than one load of ABC Recycling is rejected, the State ABC Board may be notified for review of the identified ABC permit holder's recycling program, required by G.S 18B-1006.1. Violation of this statute could result in fines or possible suspension of a business's ABC Permit.
